Objective of the conference

Non-renewable materials can no longer be disposed once humankind's ever increasing needs cannot be fulfilled anymore due to limited resources. Reuse and recycling become inevitable requirements for product and process design. Renewable resources must not be consumed in quantities higher than can be regained. New technologies have to be developed and applied for a Sustainable Product Development and Life Cycle Engineering to fulfill the needs of humankind, protecting public health, welfare, and environment.

The conference is expected to attract representatives from science and industry from several regions of the world. It serves as a forum for research institutes and industrial partners related to the area of sustainable manufacturing. It enables them to get an overview on today's challenges and the national and international research and development activities to meet those. Discussions and the sharing of experiences are highly welcomed. The conference offers keynote speeches, panel discussions, parallel sessions and a poster forum.

This seventh global conference shall be a follow-up to previous conferences held at Pusan National University, Korea in October 2008, at Rochester Institute of Technology - Rochester, NY, USA in September 2007, at University of Sao Paulo, Brazil in October 2006, at Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China in October 2005, at Technical University, Berlin, Germany in September 2004, as well as the Environmentally Benign Manufacturing (EBM) workshop held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, in January 2003.
